Me pal Ryan operates on multiple web related fronts: he is the CEO at eROI (arguably one of Portland’s top interactive marketing agencies), he is one of the founders at Seven Planet (an outfit promoting mindful commerce) and he sits on the Board at the Software Association of Oregon (empowering technology professionals)- let’s just say this fella keeps busy and yet still makes plenty of time for his family, makes time to bike to work everyday, is smiling every time I see him, etc… to name a few areas where he accelerates with personal/business balance. An excerpt from Ryan’s Blog today captioned below:

Last night I watched a modern movie take on William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. I had never seen it before; it was great; very clever in its bridging between then and now. While watching, I was thinking about two things in particular, amongst a host of others:
1 Valentine’s Day is coming up in five days and
2 Democrats and Republicans are so petty
While watching, I couldn’t help but think how petty the Montague and the Capulet families were toward each other (similar to our modern day political structure). One team vs another. One party vs another. One family vs another… a bunch of wealthy, seemingly royal, doing nothing but arguing and holding grudges and wasting time and wasting life being mad at one another all the time. I was thinking to myself how the story of Romeo and Juliet goes beyond the basic storyline of a star-crossed love affair. I feel the principles addressed, and the social commentary therein, is indicative of a much larger societal plague that ravages our civilization even to this day. People fighting when not necessary. People over thinking every aspect of their lives. People denying other people basic rights. People imposing their views on others. People willing to die for something they believe in. People letting old customs/traditions get in the way of self betterment and compromise. People being stubborn instead of all encompassing.

Me pal Thomas recently forwarded me this article outlining a new world we face regarding Social Media. In particular, section 4 strummed a chord with me.
This article is pretty intense (and has personal meaning)… 207,120 jobs lost thus far in 2009. I suppose the deeper the hole to climb out of, the greater the opportunity for great stories to tell someday. Much like a trampoline, we must go down, before we go back up.
Ideally higher than ever before.

Forthcoming will be an in depth analysis re the various kinds of capital that exist in today’s market; I’ve recently discovered there are a lot of different ways to slice the pizza with regards to quantifying and classifying the broad topic that is Capital. I read this article today and it mentions the concept of Political Capital. On a similar note, I have really been diving into the idea of Social Capital lately. Both aforementioned kinds could arguably be worth more (and be more relevant) in today’s economic climate- more so than straight up Financial Capital which is wild to think about. It’s a new way to think about.
